Grandma Jessie's Chocolate Cake

Everyone loves chocolate cake and what could be better than your grandmas?


1/2 c. shorting (Crisco)

1/2 c. butter

2 c. sugar

2 eggs

1 c. hot coffee

1 c. milk with 2 Tbs. vinegar (1 c. buttermilk)

1/2 c. cocoa

2 1/2 c. flour

1 tsp. baking soda


Preheat oven 350 degrees. Cream together shorting, butter and sugar until smooth and creamy. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well. Combine dry ingredients in a separate bowl. Alternate dry ingredients and milk into the creamy mixture, mixing well. Add hot coffee, batter will be thin. Pour into two round, greased and floured pans. Bake for 35-40 minutes or until toothpick come out clean.
